1. Sydney

Echo Point

No hiking required! Look across to the iconic Three Sisters rock formations from Echo Point. The mountain views from here are pretty spectacular. They really do look blue thanks to the national park’s eucalyptus trees creating an atmospheric tint. 

Wentworth Falls

Hop, skip and jump down to the impressive Wentworth Falls. Soak up incredible views and climb down 200 steps to feel the spray of the waterfall up close. If you don’t fancy the steps, there’s also an amazing, accessible viewpoint overlooking the falls from above. 

3. Uluru

Adventure into Cape Range National Park and relax on the aptly named Turquoise Bay. Sunbathe on the soft, white sand and soak up the tranquil atmosphere. Grab your snorkelling gear to see Ningaloo Reef, which has plenty of bommies (small areas of coral reef) that are easily accessible from the beach. 

Boat trip 

Book a boat trip to explore more of Ningaloo Reef. Tick magical marine life off your bucket list, including turtles and reef sharks. You could even opt for a humpback whale or whale shark swim, a special once-in-a-lifetime experience! A spotter plane will search for the marine life in the sky, whilst you enjoy quiet snorkelling spots and delicious snacks on board. Then, you’ll hop in the ocean as it gently swims past you. 

6. Perth

The stereotype that Aussies love an early morning start is proved true when you visit Perth. Head to any of the suburbs for sunrise and you’ll be welcomed with friendly locals on their morning walks, runs and swims before they grab a coffee in one of the many bustling coffee shops. With leafy parks and dreamy beaches aplenty, the West Coast city of Perth has a one-of-a-kind vibe.

Scarborough

A buzzing hub for backpackers, Scarborough is the place to go for the best events in Perth. During the summer months, you can start the day with a sunrise silent disco! Yes, you read that right. It doesn’t get more wholesome than this. Welcome the day dancing on the beach and running into the sea with your besties. But it’s not just the sunrises that this quaint suburb does well. Scarborough Sunset Markets is brimming with delicious street food and local live music. 

Rottnest Island 

Have you ever heard of a quokka? If not, get ready to discover your new favourite animal! This friendly marsupial wins the title ‘happiest animal in the world’ thanks to its smiley face in viral quokka selfies. Rottnest Island is a short ferry ride from Perth and the only place you can spot a quokka as they roam around the island freely. Make sure you rent a bike to see as much of this beautiful island as possible. Hop between stunning beaches and cycle up to Wadjemup Lighthouse for 360-degree views. 

7. Esperance

If you’re searching for bright blue waters and sparkling white sand, you’ve found it! Esperance’s Great Ocean Drive will spoil you for choice regarding which beach is your favourite. This 40km loop boasts a stunning coastline, with unmissable spots like the magical Twilight Beach. Plus, discover tranquil hiking spots with incredible views.

Lucky Bay 

Located inside Cape Le Grand National Park, Lucky Bay has before won the title of World’s Best Beach and it’s clear to see why. Not only is the beach beautiful, but it is also home to kangaroos! Read a book, enjoy the views and feel truly lucky as adorable kangaroos hop by. 

Frenchman Peak

After your relaxing swim on Lucky Bay, why not tackle the epic Frenchman Peak? This moderately challenging but rewarding climb offers panoramic views of Cape Le Grand National Park and the neighbouring islands of the Recherche Archipelago. At the top, you can catch your breath in the cave, which beautifully frames the scenery. 

8. Melbourne

Magic Coffee

Does Melbourne coffee live up to the hype? You’ll have to order a “magic coffee”, aka a “barista’s choice”, to find out. Melbourne’s streets are lined with bustling coffee shops, boasting their delicious coffee. A magic coffee has a strong, flavourful taste. Some cafes will advertise it on their menu but some value it as a secret item, so you’ll have to ask! 

Penguin Spotting

As the sun goes down, the little penguins come out. You can spot these cute wild animals from St Kilda Pier in the summer evenings. Over 1400 live on Melbourne’s coast, protected by penguin guides to ensure the wildfire’s safety. You can also journey to Phillip Island to witness the world-famous penguin parade. After a day of fishing in the ocean, the little penguins dash across the sand at sunset - adorable!

9. The Great Ocean Road

Roll the windows down, turn the music up and cruise down one of the most famous roads in the world. Arguably the most iconic stop on the Great Ocean Road, this isn’t a location to miss. 

Kennett River

Go koala spotting along the Kennett River. This is one of the best opportunities to spot koalas in the wild in Australia. Near the Otway National Park, you’ll see koalas hanging out in the tree branches above - just remember to look up! You’re most likely to see these friendly Marsupials sleeping, considering this is how they spend up to 24 hours a day. 

10. The Whitsundays

Every traveller should have The Whitsunday Islands on their Australia East Coast itinerary. Board an overnight boat from Airlie Beach, a vibrant coastal town. You will never see Darwin as busy as on a Thursday and Sunday night at Mindl Beach. As the sun glows across the beach, you won’t be able to resist Darwin’s favourite dish, laksa. The city’s proximity to Southeast Asia has created a rich mix of cultures and the whole city is obsessed with this spicy Southeast Asian noodle broth. Once you’ve grabbed some food, settle down on the beach to watch the sun duck below the horizon. 

Berry Springs

A 40-minute drive from Darwin’s centre, you’ll discover vivid blue water surrounded by tropical trees. Rent a pool noodle from the kiosk and float down the natural lazy river, hopping between the three tranquil pools. Dry off in the shaded picnic area and cook lunch on the free barbeques. 

12. K’Gari

Travelling Australia’s East Coast wouldn’t be complete without a K’gari adventure. Grab your mates and join a tag-along tour, driving 4x4s in convoy down the beach. S.S Maheno 

Marvel at this impressive K’Gari landmark on 75 Mile Beach. Since the S.S. Maheno shipwreck washed ashore in 1935, and it has become synonymous with K’Gari’s landscape. This is the perfect spot for group pictures and to marvel at the ancient structure.
