Austria has four distinct seasons, with the climate varying by destination. In the Summer, from June to August, the weather is warm with highs of 30°C, especially in the lower regions such as Vienna.

Winter falls between December and March, with temperatures often falling below freezing, particularly in the Alps. Spring (April to May) and Autumn (September to October) offer mild temperatures outside of peak season.

Customs & Culture

Travellers will notice that Austrians take great pride in their environment. As you enjoy the breathtaking nature, it is important to follow marked paths when hiking and leave no trace behind. Sampling some traditional Austrian dishes is a great way of embracing the local culture. You will want to try Wiener Schnitzel (breaded cutlet) and Tiroler Gröstl (a comforting dish of potatoes and bacon). When eating out at restaurants, it is customary to tip 5-10%.

You will find that it is tradition for many shops to be closed on Sundays. Your trip leader will be able to advise you on our Austria trips.
