About the Yasawa Islands

The remote paradise of Fiji’s stunning, volcanic Yasawa Islands will be your base for your unforgettable volunteering experience. This beautiful spot is the perfect place in which to discover the real Fiji and make a difference to kids’ lives as a teaching volunteer.

About the Teaching Project

Volunteering among the indigenous community on the Yasawa Islands, as a volunteer you will support education in the local area, bond with kids in your care and have a unique cultural experience immersed in the Fijian way of life. As a volunteer teacher in the Yasawas Islands you will become involved in three main areas of education:

  • Early Childhood Programmes: Volunteer at local village kindergartens with kids aged between 3-5 years old.
  • One-to-One Reading Programmes: Work one-on-one with students in local high schools, improving the literacy of young people.
  • Vocational Programmes: Volunteer in a local high school on a vocational studies programme, which includes learning skills such as marine conservation studies, tailoring, catering, carpentry, joinery and agricultural studies.

The project you get involved in as a volunteer will depend on the needs of the local community at the time of your visit. You may also get a chance to get involved in other community and education projects during your stay.

All extra activities are at your own cost.

Donations

All volunteers on this programme are required to make a mandatory local donation to support the community projects. This donation is not included in the trip cost but it provides vital funding for materials and resources for the local community and schools.
