South Africa hosting the World Cup in 2010 was arguably one of the greatest things to happen, as the country opened its arms to tourism and once and for all shook off its grisly apartheid past.
At last South Africa is on the travelling map and is a popular up and coming destination hot spot. And for the first time traveller it’s easy to get hooked! A fantastic winter sun destination, it’s a country full of rich culture, diverse natural landscapes, teeming wildlife, modern cities, beaches and wilderness.
Located at the bottom tip of the African continent, where warm weather greets you most of the year round, where 2 great oceans meet and where big game roam in their natural awe-inspiring national parks, South Africa has something for everyone.
For the adventure seekers there is a mass of different experiences to be had…..where else can you go on safari, bungy jump, volunteer with disadvantaged kids, dive with Great White sharks, visit a winery, surf, ride an ostrich, hike up mountains, spot whales, see a totally flat mountain top…..the list is truly endless!
This vast country is twice the size of France and is home to 11 official languages. South Africa has a rich diversity of cultures and quite literally has something for everyone. One of the highlights is giving your time to assist on some extremely rewarding volunteer projects. Make your trip even more worthwhile by helping on a wide range of conservation, animal and community development projects. And you don’t even need to have any particular skills, just come armed with a passion to help.
South Africa still has that wonderful off the beaten track feel but don’t hang around thinking about it for too long as word of this stunning country is getting out!
