Whilst cherry blossom season falls from March to April, peak bloom only lasts about a week, so timing is everything! The blooming dates change each year slightly, but here is the predicted cherry blossom forecast for Japan 2026:

Osaka

When in Osaka, head straight to Osaka Castle. This spot is a must-see any time of the year, but during full bloom is undoubtedly the best! The castle rises above a sea of 300 pink trees, creating one of Japan’s most iconic spring views. So, grab a bento box, find a picnic spot, and enjoy the pretty pink petals.
Top tip: Book tickets for Osaka Castle in advance as it can sell out quickly during the springtime.
Kyoto

Kyoto’s traditional streets + soft pink petals = pure magic. There’s something surreal about Kyoto during cherry blossom season. Head to NijÅ Castle to enjoy the blossom festival, walk through Maruyama Park, famous for its weeping cherry trees, or visit the Buddhist temple, Ninna-ji, for a stunning blend of history and petals.
Top tip: If you’re slightly late arriving in Kyoto for sakura season, check out Ninna-ji first! It’s one of the latest blooming spots in Kyoto.
Tokyo

In Tokyo, don’t miss the Ueno Park Blossom Festival, where hundreds of pink tree-lined paths are packed with Japanese street food. For a more relaxed vibe, check out Yoyogi Park, perfect for taking dreamy photos. By night, make sure to visit the Meguro River. Its cherry trees are illuminated in the evenings, creating a gorgeous pink glow along the river banks.
Top tip: Try the street food! Okonomiyaki (savoury pancakes) and yakisoba (stir-fried noodles) are calling your name. Plus, during springtime, there are usually pink-themed, sakura-flavoured treats like mochi, dango, and cherry blossom-themed bento boxes. So ‘kawaii’!
Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is always photogenic, but something about cherry blossom season makes Japan’s most famous peak even more iconic. The best viewing spots are from the Chureito pagoda, Fuji Five Lakes, and Hakone Ropeway. It’s peaceful, dramatic, and unforgettable.
Top tip: For your best chance to see Mount Fuji, visit early in the morning! In April, between 7 and 9 am, is the ideal time to catch a glimpse of its snow-topped peak.
