Signing up to the Muay Thai challenge you’ll need to be prepared for some intensive daily training which will get you ring ready in no time! With two trainer-led workouts a day, 6 days a week, a typical session will begin in the morning as you greet the tropical dawn with a short wake-up run through the hillsides, getting your heart beating before the day becomes too hot! Training sessions will include a mixture of Muay Thai, Western Boxing and Gladiator Fitness Training.
Once you’re awake and raring to go, you’ll be put through a basic warm up, stretching your muscles to increase your flexibility, suppleness and range of movement. Continuing your warm up preparations with a new loose and limber attitude, after a few lunges you can move on to the skipping rope, whipping through a few short bouts before an intensive workout in order to improve upon your footwork, agility and speed.
After this your Muay Thai training will begin with short rounds of bag-work, where you’ll spend between three and five minutes attacking your kick-bag opponent, punching, kicking, kneeing and elbowing in order to increase your stamina.
Moving onto pad work with our trainers you’ll be put through your paces in three to five minute rounds, working up your accuracy training and fine tuning your technique, as you perfect your boxing stance and improve on your range, testing out your reaction times and mobility as you land a few blows! Your Muay Thai trainers will be wearing shin, stomach and hand pads for this, so don’t worry if you think you pack a powerful punch!
And now for the clincher – during your clinch training you’ll be working on your knee and elbow strike techniques, as unlike other boxing styles, when Muay Thai boxers clinch in a fight they’re not separated, and instead can use their knees and elbows to try to bring down their opponent! As the last few points of contact in the “Art of the Eight Limbs” (with the total sum of points of contact being your two hands, feet, knees and elbows) this vital grappling work is what really sets aside Thai boxing style and technique from any other. Spending around ten minutes to half an hour getting up close and personal, you’ll finish up with some light shadow-boxing, crunches and sit-ups in order to increase your muscular flexibility and prevent damage, cramps and pulled muscles.
If your main aim on this trip is to get yourself ring-ready and prepped for a fight, you’ll be sent on another stamina increasing hillside run, before coming back to join the rest of the fight school for another training session at 16:00. During your stay you’ll also have full access to the brand new, modern gym facilities 7 days a week (between the hours of 7am-9pm), so you can lift a few weights during any time you’re not training.
After all your exertions, the rest of the time is up to you, and you can either crash out on the beach watching the condensation roll down your cooling cocktail glass, explore a little more of the island or check out the local shops before relaxing in your room.

All of your Muay Thai training will take place on the idyllic island of Koh Tao, located in the gulf of Thailand, off the eastern shore of the mainland.
To begin your Thai travels, you’ll need to arrive into Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok. You should arrange your flights so you arrive into Bangkok at least a couple of days before your programme start date. We recommend that you spend your first night(s) in Bangkok, and from there simply take a taxi to a hotel in Khao San Road. This way you’ll be well rested and very close to our bus meeting point, which will take you from Khao San Road to your ferry connection the next day. We can recommend some great places to stay in Khao San Road if you need.
VIP bus and boat transfers to the island are included into your total trip price. Buses leave Bangkok at either 5.30am or 8.30pm daily. You will then take a catamaran to Koh Tao Island, where our boxing partner staff will meet you off the boat and show you around the island and your accommodation.
Accommodation on Koh Tao Island is included for your stay, in comfortable, modern, secure and air-conditioned mixed shared dorm accommodation. The accommodation is located close to the gym and the boxing stadium. Rooms sleep a maximum of 12 people (males and females), and have en-suite western–style bathrooms and wi-fi access. The accommodation is close to the beach so you can kick back and sooth your aching muscles in this most tranquil of Thai locations.
As meals are not included during this trip you will need to bring a little extra money to cover your costs. You'll be able to find a number of shops, bars, internet cafés and restaurants close by, which serve up a range of tantalising Thai and Western cuisine. Meals are generally available quite cheaply, so you should soon find enough delicious food to keep you in shape for more Muay Thai training!
As the Koh Tao scene is pretty well stocked up and rich in beach bar nightlife, you might also like to keep some cocktail cash aside for the evenings where you can swap your Muay Thai for a Mai Tai and work you way through a different kind of rounds!
The minimum age to join this Thai boxing trip is 18.
The allowed duration of your trip varies depending upon how you plan to arrive into Thailand. Without a visa, British nationals arriving by land or air can remain in the country for a maximum of 30 days. If you wish to stay for longer, or plan to begin employed work during your stay, then you will need to apply for a visa before you depart the UK. If you are not planning on working this will be in the form of a 60 day tourist visa.
For more information, and to obtain your visa, please contact us.
Please note that Thailand has quite strict rules over the duration times on visas, and if you overstay your authorised time, has equally strict reprimands. If you allow your visa to run out and do not have an extension on your stay, you could be heavily fined, be held in detention, deported back to the UK (at your own expense) and even blacklisted and banned from re-entering Thailand.
Visas, extensions, and any form of entry permit must always be obtained from an official Thai Embassy or Consulate, so you should be aware that any paperwork not obtained from there will be illegal, placing you in further trouble and possibly leading to criminal proceedings.
No matter what your age or experience, this boxing trip is open to both men and women and aims to get you fit, fierce and fighting your way through a comprehensive training programme. Whether you’re a novice just beginning your boxing break, or a more experienced fighter looking to tune up your technique, we’ll be able to find the right level of training and Muay tuition to suit you.
