Further trip information

Explore the wonders of Eastern Europe by rail. Take the whole 21 day trip, or if your time or budget is tight, take one of the shorter stand-alone options - it’s totally up to you!

Option 1: Eastern Europe only (8 days)

Option 2: The Balkans only (13 days)

Option 3: Eastern Europe & the Balkans (option 1 + option 2) (21 days)

Option 1: Eastern Europe (8 days)

Berlin, Germany (2 nights). Kick off your amazing adventure in Germany’s capital of cool. We’ll take you to the East Side Gallery then leave you to explore. Visit Checkpoint Charlie, climb the Reichstag, tuck into some currywurst and join our optional activities from a bar crawl to a trip up the TV Tower.

Prague, Czech Republic (2 nights). Prague is as pretty as Paris, but the beer is MUCH cheaper! We’ve included an atmospheric sunset cruise on the river, but the rest of the time is yours. Don’t miss the astronomical clock, Charles Bridge and the Jewish Quarter. Optionals include a tour of Prague Castle and a pub crawl – cheers!

Vienna, Austria (1 night). Vienna is almost impossibly gorgeous. Take in the splendour of Hoffsberg Palace, channel Mozart at a classical concert, and tuck into some strudel at a grand coffee house. Weather permitting, we’ll take you paddle boarding (we'll head to Prater Park in the winter!).

Budapest, Hungary (2 nights). Budapest is like a fairy-tale. Cycle the banks of the Danube, explore the markets and drink craft beer in a ruin bar. Optional activities include a Castle tour, party cruise and a tour of the Parliament building. We’ve also included a visit to the Szechenyi Baths. Option 1 travellers, your trip ends after 2 nights in Budapest.  Option 3 travellers – you’ve got another night to enjoy the city.

Option 2: The Balkans (13 days)

Budapest, Hungary (1 night). If you’re joining us for option 2, welcome to beautiful Budapest! If you’ve taken option 3, you’ve already enjoyed two nights here, and guess what? You’ve got another – yay!

Belgrade, Serbia (2 nights). What Belgrade lacks in looks in looks it makes up for with cool, and the party scene is next-level. There’s plenty of historical interest here as well. We’ve included a bus and walking tour, then you’re free to explore. Optional activities include a river tour and a ghost walking tour!

Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina (3 nights). Sarajevo is a fascinating place. Spend an afternoon strolling round the Turkish bazaars, take a cable-car up Mount Trebevi? and grab a Bosnian coffee and baklava. We’ve also included a ‘total siege’ tour. Optionals include a visit to Kravice Waterfalls, rafting, and a ‘scars and smiles’ tour.

Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina (1 night).  Mostar is ridiculously picturesque, with steep cobbled streets lining the turquoise waters of the Neretva River. Visit the mosque, pick up souvenirs in the bazaar, and visit the War Photo Exhibition. We’ll also take you to the famous Old Bridge.

Kotor, Montenegro (2 nights). Kotor is in a spectacular setting with soaring mountains and a dazzling bay. While you’re here, climb the town walls, visit the Cathedral, take a day trip to the stunning Lovecen National Park, or visit the Cat Museum. We’ve included a boat trip too – pack your camera!

Dubrovbnik, Croatia (day only). Dubrovnik really is a gem – it’s easy to see why it was chosen as a film location for Game of Thrones. We’ll take you on a guided tour of the highlights before continuing on to Split, where we’ll spend the night.

Split, Croatia (4 nights). Our last stop is a corker. Explore the Diocletian’s Palace, stroll along the waterfront and chill on Ba?vice Beach. We’ve included a sea kayaking experience, and there are optionals including Krka National Park, Hvar and a Split pub crawl. After four nights, your amazing trip comes to an end.
