Kick off your Bali adventures with an amazing cultural immersion week in a rural village near Ubud then head to the idyllic island of Nusa Penida to help at an amazing turtle conservation project. Get involved with turtle nesting sites and at a rehabilitation centre and care for turtles on this unspoilt island. Help teach English to local kids and volunteer in the community too, while you stay near a stunning beach off the beaten track!

Further trip information

Week 1: Cultural Introduction Week

Day 1, Sunday: Arrivals day. No meals or activities included today.

Day 2, Monday: 3-hour walking tour of Ubud and ‘Monkey Forest’. Afternoon orientation talk. Balinese dance show in the evening.

Day 3, Tuesday: Countryside walk through rice paddies and local villages. Balinese language lesson in the afternoon.

Day 4, Wednesday: Traditional Balinese Batik painting class and more language lessons.

Day 5, Thursday: Cook a Balinese dish and create a traditional Balinese flower offering. Traditional Balinese group dinner in the evening.

Day 6, Friday: Tour of Pura Tirta Empul Temple. Introduction to volunteer project.

Day 7 & 8, Saturday & Sunday: Cultural introduction week ends. Once your cultural orientation week is over you will then be driven with a co-ordinator for 40 minutes to Sanur on the coast, where you will hop on board a 40 minute speedboat ride to the remote and unspoilt island of Nusa Penida where the turtle conservation project is based.

Turtle Conservation: 2 Weeks

You will volunteer for approx 5 hours per day on weekdays. This is a sample weekly itinerary:

Mondays

8.00am: Breakfast

9.00am-11.30am: Project work; cleaning, feeding, turtle care

12.00noon: Lunch

2.00pm-4.00pm: Cleaning the beach area with local students

5.00pm: Feeding the turtles

5.30pm: Meeting and feedback session

6.00pm: Dinner

Tuesdays -Thursdays

8.00am: Breakfast

9.00am-11.30am: Project work; cleaning, feeding, turtle care

12.00noon: Lunch

2.00pm-4.00pm: Teaching at local school

5.00pm: Feeding the turtles

1 week Yoga Add-On Experience

Please note: If you select this add-on it will run during week 2 of the programme.

Yoga sessions run for around 4-5 hours a day, between 6-8am and 4-6pm and the rest of the day is yours to relax and enjoy the local area. Varied experience levels are catered for.

Dates & booking
Please note during certain times of the year due to festivals and school holidays the community volunteering included in the project does not run, however turtle conservation runs all year round. During Silent Day in March no activities take place, there is no electricity and no one is permitted to speak. Please respect and obey these local customs. 2018 religious and festival dates will be released in due course, and will likely cover similar date ranges.
