You can choose from one of these suggested around-the-world routes, or you can design your own Global 360 by adding in or taking out any combination of these packages, or any of our other gap travel programmes. 

Designing Your Own Tailor-Made 360

Our Five Global 360 Trip Options

We have selected some of our most popular programmes and put them together to create five amazing Global 360 packages.  All five Global 360 options include the awesome Thai Adventure, our Absolute Oz paid work in Australia package, a New Zealand hop-on-hop-off bus pass, a tour of Fiji and one of two road trips in the USA (San Francisco to either LA or New York).  Depending on which of the five options you pick, you can then also add in either the Discover Cambodia experience, the Indochina Discovery tour or the Classic Bali trip.  Here’s an outline of all the potential programmes on offer as part of the five Global 360s:

THAILAND – 4 week Thai Adventure – Included in all Global 360 options

An ideal trip to begin your adventure! Enjoy 4 weeks of group exploration with an expert tour guide, immersing yourself in the fascinating culture and beauty of Thailand. Uncover hidden city treasures in Bangkok, visit temples, explore National Parks and cling to an elephant’s back, before lazing on sun-drenched sands on idyllic islands. Starting in Bangkok the Thai Adventure includes:

• 2 days at an Elephant Park
• 2 days of trekking in the hills in Northern Thailand
• 3 days volunteering with Karen hill tribe kids

AUSTRALIA - Absolute Oz  - 7 Day programme + Independent work/travel time in Australia (approx. 6-7 months) – Included in all Global 360 options

Start living life Down Under and within the week will have everything you need in order to find paid work in Australia!  Running for a total of 7 days, with accommodation included, you’ll spend your first few days exploring Sydney before travelling to an outback base camp. Chill out at the beach, take a bushwalk, discover wildlife, take a 4x4 sand dune tour, go sand boarding, learn about Aboriginal cultures and join a bottlenose dolphin cruise. Then you’re ready to kick-start your job search in Oz!

The Absolute Oz package provides you with everything you need to work Down Under, including 12 months of job support and access to a database of job opportunities all over Australia.  The programme will assist you with finding a flat should you want one, and make your CV Aussie friendly.  A bar skills course is also included as part of the programme.

There are a wide range of jobs available in Australia.  Typical jobs include bar and hospitality work, office jobs, accountancy, sales and marketing, Au Pair and childcare jobs, labour and trade work, farm/ranch jobs, and nursing or healthcare.  Wage rates vary depending on the type of job you have and its location. On average expect to earn between about £14-16 per hour.

After the Absolute Oz introductory week, we suggest taking around 6-7 months to work and travel independently throughout Australia. This can always be extended (although remember that your visa limits you to 12 months in total for your trip) or shortened to suit your preferences. Equally, you can opt out of working in Oz if you wish. Please let us know your preferences when booking.

NEW ZEALAND – New Zealand Experience Pass (Minimum 16 Days – up to 12 months) – Included in all Global 360 options

This tour takes you across New Zealand, all the way from amazing Auckland to charming Christchurch.  You’ll see incredible scenery, jump into awesome adrenaline activities and have all sorts of adventures along the way.  From Wellington to Waitomo, you can take risks in Rotorua or see stunning Marlborough Sounds on this tour to end all tours.

Your all-knowing tour guides will give you expert advice, creative commentary and cultural knowledge so you can make the most of this Kiwi experience. This hop-on, hop off bus tour is one of the best ways to explore the 'land of the long white cloud'. This one way pass takes at least 16 days to complete but we recommend taking around 4-6 weeks, though it’s entirely up to you, as you can hop-on and hop-off this bus whenever you like for as long as you want as you have 12 months validity on this pass!

Accommodation and meals are not included on this tour, though recommendations will be made by your guides along the way.

FIJI – 1 Night Fiji Arrival Pack, and a Triple Treat Tour (Minimum 12 Days) – Included in all Global 360 options

This tropical hop-on-hop-off bus tour of the main Fijian Islands means you’ll soon be roaming around this pacific paradise.  Swim, sail, sunbathe, and snorkel in between chatting to your island guides and gaining a little cultural knowledge.  Beginning with a 1-night arrival pack, you’ll be welcomed into Fiji and driven in style to your hotel after arriving at the airport. Starting our Triple Treat Fijian hop-on, hop-off tour the following day, you can enjoy a minimum of 10 days travelling around Viti Levu, visiting the neighbouring islands of Beachcomber (the place to party!) and Mantaray, perfect for snorkelling. Passes for this tour are valid for up to 12 months, so you may like to include additional independent time here to explore Fiji.

10 nights accommodation and some (but not all) meals are included during this tour.

USA – A choice between two tours – 1 tour included in all Global 360 options

Tour 1: A San Francisco to Los Angeles Tour

OR

Tour 2: A San Francisco to New York Tour

Flying from Fiji to San Francisco, you can take some time to explore one of the most famous countries on the planet: The United States of America!  With two tours to choose from, you can add in extra days at the beginning and end of the tour to see all the city sights.  All accommodation and transportation is included throughout both tours.

Tour 1: San Francisco to Los Angeles

This 8-day tour explores the west coast of America, travelling through a total of three states and along parts of Route 66. Visiting Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and a total of three National Parks (Yosemite, Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree) along the way, you’ll start out with some sightseeing in San Francisco, and have time to explore all the attractions of Los Angeles at the end. 4 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 4 dinners included.

Tour 2: San Francisco to New York City

This awesome 23-day road trip crosses America from San Francisco to New York City. Visiting National Parks along the way, you’ll see world famous attractions such as the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.  16 breakfasts, 14 lunches, and 16 dinners included.

CAMBODIA - Discover Cambodia – 7 days – Included in Global 360 Option 3 ONLY

If you choose our Option 3 Global 360 you’ll take a round trip from Bangkok into Cambodia and see the country’s major highlights in a condensed 7-day trip.  Explore markets, shrines, memorials & temples in Phnom Penh, be awed by the legacy of the Khmer Empire in Siem Reap and be inspired by the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat.

CAMBODIA/VIETNAM/LAOS - Indochina Discovery – 30 days – Included in Global 360 Option 4 ONLY

Explore the magic of Indochina as you visit four Southeast Asian countries in 30 days.  Heading full circle from the Thai capital of Bangkok you’ll travel through Cambodia and on to the Vietnamese capital, Ho Chi Minh City, then cross into Laos before ending your trip back in the buzz of Bangkok.  See stunning world sights such as Angkor Wat and Halong Bay along the way! 

BALI - Classic Bali – 8 days – Included in Global 360 Option 5 ONLY

Discover the beauty of Bali as you explore Indonesia on this magical 8-day tour.  Combining cultural highlights with beautiful beaches, these idyllic islands are the ideal place to relax and unwind in Asia.  See rice paddies, towering temples, Monkey forests, markets, hot springs, volcanic mountains, the secluded island of Nusa Lembongan and breathtaking beaches on this Asian experience.

Itinerary

Below are the individual itineraries for all our suggested programmes, which make up our five Global 360 trips.  The Global 360 is entirely customisable and can be tailored to suit your preferences. Destinations and durations may be added, removed and changed as you wish.

THAILAND - THAI ADVENTURE (4 WEEKS) – Included in all Global 360 options

The Thai Adventure starts on a Wednesday and runs on average once a month:

Day 1 – Arrive in Bangkok
Day 2 – Start your 4 week Thai Adventure by exploring buzzing Bangkok
Days 3 & 4 – Bicycles and Temples: Ayutthaya. Overnight train to Chiang Mai day 4
Days 5 & 6 – Chiang Mai including famous Night Bazaar!
Days 7 & 8 – 2-day elephant mahout course – learn to feed ride and care for elephants!
Day 9 – Free day in Chiang Mai
Days 10 & 11 – Northern Thailand 2 day adventure trekking
Day 12 – Free time then take train back to Bangkok
Days 13 & 14 – Visit the Karen Hill tribes and volunteer with local tribespeople.
Days 15,16,17,18,19,20, 21 – Chill out on the idyllic island of Koh Tao.  Optional extra activity to learn to scuba dive (extra cost). 
Day 22- 28 –Relax on the gorgeous Thai island of Koh Phangan living it up in paradise!

If you want to incorporate some more independent travel time in Thailand, you certainly can. Please discuss time frames with your travel advisor who will help create your itinerary according to your ideal plans.  If you stay longer than 30 days in Thailand you will need to get a 60-day tourist visa in place before you travel.

AUSTRALIA - ABSOLUTE OZ (7 DAYS THEN UP TO 12 MONTHS TRAVEL) – Included in all Global 360 options

The Absolute Oz programme starts on a Monday so arrival on Sunday is recommended.  An airport shuttle transfer ticket is included from the airport to near your hostel in Sydney.

At this point you will be eligible and prepared to take on paid work in Australia. After the Absolute Oz, you will have free time in order to work and travel around Australia. We recommend you take around 6-7 months if you want to do paid work.

NEW ZEALAND HOP-ON-HOP-OFF EXPERIENCE PASS (MINIMUM16 DAYS, VALID FOR UP TO 12 MONTHS) – Included in all Global 360 options

Auckland – Hot Water Beach – Waitomo – Rotorua – Taupo – River Valley – Wellington – Picton – Kaiteriteri – Westport – Lake Mahinapua – Franz Josef – Wanaka – Queenstown – Christchurch

What you do once you’re in Christchurch is up to you!  You can spend some more time in New Zealand, or you can fly onto Fiji to begin your next tour!

FIJI ARRIVAL PACK & TRIPLE TREAT TOUR – Included in all Global 360 options

Nadi – Mango Bay – Uprising Beach – Suva City – Volivoli Beach – Nadi – Beachcomber Island – Mantaray Island – Nadi

Day 1 - Arrive and relax with a warm Fijian welcome.
Day 2 – Nadi on Viti Levu Island, Natadola Beach, Malomalo Village and sandboarding.
Day 3 – Coral coast at Mango Bay, Uprising beach resort, rainforest trek.
Day 4 – Uprising Resort, Volivoli Beach, Suva City, school visit, Wailotua Village, bilibili rafting.

We recommend you allow around 5 days of independent time after either tour so you can explore your destination city before returning to the UK.

Please note: The New Zealand Experience Pass and Triple Treat are hop-on, hop-off bus tours. Tour flexibility/individual & independent travel is therefore possible during these parts of the trip. As passes are valid for up to 12 months you can take longer to explore if you wish.

Arrival Info

Arrival locations and dates will vary depending on your individual Global 360 programme.

If you choose to follow one of our five suggested Global 360 itineraries, you will begin your global travels by flying into Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok for a Thai Adventure.  Airport transfer to hostel included.

From Bangkok, you can then either travel on to Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos or Bali.  You can then fly from either Bangkok or Bali to Sydney, Australia, to arrive in time for the Monday start of the Absolute Oz paid work programme (Sunday arrival recommended).  You will be given a transfer voucher from Sydney airport to arrive near your hostel.

You will then need to fly from Australia to New Zealand at a time convenient to you, to begin your New Zealand Experience Pass tour beginning in Auckland and ending in Christchurch.

Next, fly on to Fiji where you will be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation.  You will need to arrive the night before the start of the Triple Treat Tour (Departs Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays).

Fly into the USA to San Francisco where you will need to make your own way to the hotel for a Saturday start to your 8 or 23-day tour.

Finally, fly home from Los Angeles or New York to the UK.

Accommodation & Meals

Thai Adventure

All of your accommodation (28 nights) and transport is included in the Thai Adventure: Two nights of guesthouse accommodation in Bangkok's Khao San Road plus accommodation across Thailand in twin-shared guesthouse rooms. You stay in a comfortable hotel for two nights during your volunteer project with the Karen people and at beach accommodation on Koh Tao and Koh Phangan.

Meals are not included, except during your two days at the orphanage volunteer project. This means you will need to bring a little extra money to cover your costs. It's very cheap to eat out in Thailand, and tends to be a fun and sociable occasion. With a wide choice of shops, restaurants, bars, and enticing street vendor food available you can expect to pay about £3-5 for an average meal.

Absolute Oz

7 nights accommodation is included for the duration of the Absolute Oz, this will be a combination of nights in shared dorm rooms in a popular city central hostel for nights 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7, and on a beach base camp on nights 3 and 4.

In your hostel in Sydney, you’ll enjoy modern facilities in shared dorm accommodation with up to 10 people where you’ll make loads of new friends!

Some meals are included as a part of this trip. These include:

Monday – Welcome dinner and a drink
Tuesday - Lunch
Wednesday – Dinner (group pizza)
Thursday – Breakfast, lunch and a BBQ dinner
Friday – Breakfast
Saturday – Entry to four bars – a drink in each bar!

After the first 7 days of accommodation in Australia the most popular option is to rent an apartment and our team in Sydney will be more than happy to help.  Renting is cheaper and you could share with friends you meet in your first week. You can expect to pay £100-£150 per week. The minimum contract is normally 3 months but some agencies will ask you to commit to six months.  Alternatively you can extend your stay in a hostel, a great option for those that want to travel around. Hostels offer cheaper rates for those that want a long term stay. It is really easy to book accommodation in hostels, you can generally walk in and get a room that day but we recommend that you make a reservation the night before during busy periods or your first night in a new location. Depending on where you stay in Australia, you can expect to pay around £140-£175 per week.

New Zealand Experience Pass

Bus transport included.  Food and accommodation is not included.

The total price of your bus pass does not include your accommodation or meals, but your guide will suggest some great deals and discounts on food and accommodation.  You can even purchase bulk hostel passes, which you can redeem along the way. Please ask your Travel Advisor for more information.

Fiji Arrival Pack

On arrival into Fiji, you will be met at the airport and taken to your preselected accommodation (from a choice of 9.  If you’re not sure, we recommend Nadi Bay Resort or Smugglers Cove!) where you will spend one night in a shared dorm room before your Triple Treat tour starts the following day.  You can pay extra for a private double or twin upgrade. Please remember to state your choice at time of booking.

Fiji Triple Treat

9 nights of accommodation and bus and boat transport is included.
- Mango Bay Resort – 1 night
- Uprising Beach Resort – 1 night
- Volivoli Beach – 1 night
- Nadi - 1 Night
- Beachcomber Island Resort – 2 nights
- Mantaray Island Resort – 3 nights

This trip will finish in Nadi on your 10th night of the trip. We recommend that you book another night's stay in Nadi for the end of your trip, through Gap 360 or your tour guide.

A continental breakfast on the first three mornings, and all meals on Beachcomber Island are included. A compulsory meal package is applicable on Mantaray Island, paid directly to the resort. All other meals are on a menu selection basis and average between £3-9 per meal at each of the resort restaurants.

USA Tour - San Francisco to Los Angeles

7 nights of accommodation are included, 3 nights in centrally located hotels, and 4 nights camping. Camping equipment is included.  4 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 4 dinners are included.  We recommend you bring between USD 50 - 75 to cover your food for the eight days and seven nights on this tour.

USA Tour - San Francisco to New York

22 nights of accommodation are included, 5 nights in centrally located hotels, 1 night in a hostel, and 16 nights camping. Camping equipment is included.  16 breakfasts, 14 lunches, and 13 dinners are included. We recommend you bring between USD 200-300 to cover extra food for the 23 days and 22 nights on this tour.

On both American tours you can choose to upgrade to personal accommodation/ your own room/ tent at additional cost. If you are travelling alone, you will either be placed in twin or multi-share accommodation/ tents with another traveller of the same sex.

Discover Cambodia

6 nights of twin or multi-share guesthouse accommodation is included, plus six breakfasts.  We recommend you bring USD 135 - 175 to cover additional food.

Indochina Discovery

29 nights of twin or multi-share accommodation is included, 25 nights in hostels/guesthouses and 4 nights on sleeper trains.  16 breakfasts, 1 lunch and 1 dinner included. We recommend you bring USD 570-750 for additional food.

Classic Bali

7 nights of twin or multi-share guesthouse accommodation is included in this tour.  7 breakfasts and 1 dinner are included. We recommend you bring between USD 140-180 to cover your food for the eight days.

Minimum Age & Eligibility

The minimum age to join our trips is 18.  Please note the legal drinking age is 21 in USA, if you are between 18-21 you are still able to join the trip, however you will not be permitted into pubs, bars or casinos.

Though Visas are your responsibility to obtain, our Gap 360 travel advisors will be here to help and assist with any relevant visas you may need.

Working in Australia:  Due to Working Holiday Visa age restrictions, trips which involve working in Australia are only available to 18-30 year olds. If you are of this age and are planning to work in Australia during your trip then you’ll need to apply for a Working Holiday Visa. This can be done online through the Australian Immigration website, or we can help to do this for you. If you do not fit this age criteria then you will still be able to visit Australia, (and will still need a visa) but will be unable to undertake paid work. Please contact us for further details.

Asia Visas: You will need visas in order to enter Cambodia and Vietnam, and for Thailand if you plan to remain for durations of longer than 30 days. These MUST be obtained before you travel.

Cambodian visas can either be obtained online, or upon arrival at the border (where you would need to pay the USD 20 fee). Visas for Laos are usually issued upon arrival at the border. Vietnamese visas must be obtained before travelling.  In Thailand, without a visa, British nationals arriving by air can remain in the country for a maximum of 30 days, though if you arrive across a land border you can only stay for 15 days. If you wish to stay for longer, or plan to begin employed work during your stay, then you will need to apply for a visa before you depart the UK. If you are not planning on working this will be in the form of a 60-day tourist visa.

The visa situation in Indonesia is frequently changing. Please check www.fco.gov.uk for the latest information.

Group Size

Thai Adventure:

Minimum group size is 4, though generally is between 10 –12. Maximum 16.

Absolute Oz:

Between 5 – 15 people for group activities.

New Zealand Experience Pass:

Group size on each bus is usually around 20 people.

Fiji Triple Treat:

Group size is usually around 15 people.

San Francisco to Los Angeles or San Francisco to New York:

Group sizes between 10 – 13 people.

Discover Cambodia, Indochina Discovery, Classic Bali:

On these three Asian trips there is a maximum of 15, average of 10 people.

Flights are not included in the price.

We work with an expert flights team who are able to get you the most competitive prices on round the world tickets! Once we’ve established the destinations you want to go to, we’ll help you arrange a ‘flexible, free date change’ ticket.

Please note that open return flight tickets are usually only valid for a twelve-month period.  If you are planning your gap travel to last longer than a year, you should consider buying one-way flight tickets for travel.  Depending on the countries you will be visiting, you will need to check with the relevant embassies that they will accept entry into their country with a one-way flight ticket only.
