Most of our travellers on this trip choose to leave the tour and begin their volunteer experience today, collected around 4pm for a volunteer welcome meeting and orientation session. However, as the tour doesn't 'officially' end until tomorrow, you do have the choice to stay with the tour group for the final night. If you choose to do this you will need to ensure that you meet the volunteer group by 9am the following morning in Kochi. Please note that if you choose this option you will miss out on your welcome meeting orientation.

Volunteering in Kerala

You can opt to either:

1) Volunteer with Kids (2 or 4 weeks)
2) Volunteer with Disabled Children (4 weeks)

Day 1 (day 20 of the tour): Check in to your volunteer accommodation. In the evening you will enjoy a welcome meeting from the local volunteer project team and get a chance to meet your group.

Day 2: During day 2 you will have a cultural orientation, get fully prepared for your project placement plus be given local health & safety advice. After your orientation session you will be given an introductory tour of the fantastic Fort Kochi area which will be your home during your stay in Kerala.

Days 3-7: Volunteering. On day 3 you will be met at your accommodation by the local project coordinator, who will then travel with you to the site of your volunteer project. The cost of travel from your accommodation to the project site is not included but will only cost around £2-3 per day. A typical volunteer day will run from around 10am-12pm, and 2pm-3:30pm.

For the further weeks of your programme, weekdays will be spent volunteering, with weekends free.

Please note: This itinerary is a guide only and may be subject to change according to the needs of the local community at the time of your trip. Volunteers should be flexible and ready to adapt to unexpected changes and new situations.

Weekends/free time

Your evenings and weekends are free time to have fun and enjoy optional activities. You can wander into town and hang out in the cafes, visit the local markets or walk along the coast. You can take a ferry or taxi into the main city if you want to enjoy cultural shows, football matches or go to the cinema.
