Citrus and blueberry picking is casual employment and payment based on a Enterprise Bargaining Agreement 2017. The employer will be required to enter into ‘Piecework Agreement’ with the employee. A piece rate amount for an average competent picker is $28.01 per hour of work. This means that your salary will depend on how much work you perform rather than how many hours you work.
The hours and location of work for citrus and blueberry picking will vary daily depending on weather conditions and market demands.
In the case of hourly work which may include weeding, planting and general farm work, the pay rate is in accordance with Level 1 of the Horticultural Award 2010, viz. $24.36 per hour.
Fruit picking is physically demanding work. Employees must be physically fit and capable of performing the repetitive and demanding nature of the work. This will include; carrying of weight up to 20kgs, climbing a ladder, bending and squatting.
Our season runs from early December through to early October.
