Further trip information

This is an adventure tour involving camping and lots of participation, including setting up camp, as well as shopping, cooking and other camp duties. It’s a lot of fun, but best suited to travellers looking for a bit of a challenge. The transport is a really unique feature of this trip too, with most of our journeys undertaken in our 24-seat custom-built safari vehicle. Most of our game park visits are carried out using smaller 4x4 vehicles provided by local services so you can get up close and personal with the wildlife.

Day 1: Pretoria to Hazyview (South Africa). Your tour kicks off early in Pretoria. Grab a window seat and get ready for jaw-dropping views as we take the aptly named Panorama Route to Hazyview, on the outskirts of Kruger National Park. Enjoy an evening of singing and dancing from local Shangaan tribesmen before a night under canvas, with the sounds of the bush all around.

Please note: Due to the early start today you need to arrive the night before and book an extra night of accommodation.

Day 2: Kruger National Park. We’ll enjoy a full day’s game drive in this incredible National Park. Keep your eyes peeled for lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffes and leopards as we off-road it through the stunning landscape. Then return to camp for another evening of fun under the stars.

Day 3: Hazyview to Tshipise. Leave Hazyview behind and travel north through spectacular countryside to Tshipise. We’re staying on a sprawling campground, dotted with baobab trees and hot springs. Take a dip, stroll through the lush woodland, and enjoy some dinner with the gang.

Day 4: Tshipishe to Bulawayo (Zimbabwe). Get ready for some more ink in your passport today as we cross the border into Zimbabwe. We’re headed for a campsite on the outskirts of Bulawayo. The afternoon is yours to relax by the campsite pool or explore the local area at your own pace.

Day 5: Matobo National Park. Spend half a day exploring the wonders of Matobo National Park with our local guides. With the highest concentration of Black and White Rhino in Africa, and the densest population of leopard and black eagles in the world, get ready for some amazing wildlife spotting opportunities! Spend the afternoon chilling on camp, or upgrade to a full day tour.

Day 6: Bulawayo to Livingstone (Zambia). Cross the border into Zambia, where our destination is the laid-back town of Livingstone.  We’ll pay a visit today to the mighty Victoria Falls. Then either kick back at our riverside campsite or get your adrenaline pumping with an optional white water rafting experience on the Zambezi River. Celebrate your final night with the rest of your group.

Day 7: Livingstone and trip end. Your tour ends today in Livingstone. Why not stick around and get involved with some of the incredible adventure activities on offer here, including bungee jumping, gorge swinging, jet boating, and white-water rafting?

Optional Adventure Pass

The Adventure Pass entitles you to an awesome game walk in Matobo National Park, Zimbabwe. The cost of this is separate to the cost of the tour. You will need to pay the cost of your pass directly to your tour leader in Africa at the beginning of the tour. The cost is $100 USD, but is subject to change. Paying separately for the pass ensures that local suppliers benefit directly from the income.

Arrival information

You will need to fly into Johannesburg airport the day before your tour begins in order to attend a compulsory 6pm pre-tour welcome meeting. Accommodation for this night is at your own cost. Airport transfers are not included but are easy to arrange. The starting point of the tour is a hotel in Pretoria which is a short 30-40 minute taxi ride from OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg.

The tour ends in Livingstone, Zambia, on day 7. Due to the late finish we recommend booking an extra night of accommodation and flying home the following morning. Please speak to a travel advisor for more information.

Accommodation & meals

6 nights of camping accommodation are included. All camping and cooking equipment is provided, including 2-person dome tents with zip up insect screens and foam sleeping mattresses. Campsites usually have wash and shower facilities, electricity points and sometimes even a small shop, bar or swimming pool. This trip is all about mucking in together and you will be expected to help with putting the tents up. You should bring your own sleeping bag.

In order to attend the compulsory pre-tour meeting on the evening before your tour begins, you will need to book an extra night of pre-accommodation (extra cost). We can help you organise this. Due to the late arrival on day 7, we also recommend booking an extra night of post-tour accommodation. Please contact a travel advisor for more details.

6 breakfasts, 4 lunches and 5 dinners are included on this tour. You will need to purchase the rest of your meals yourself. This is a great opportunity to discover some African culture by sampling delicious local delicacies and interacting with local people! Please let your travel advisor know in advance if you have any dietary requirements.

Upgraded Accommodation

If you would prefer to stay in hotels, rather than camp, there is the option to upgrade on this tour for extra cost. Please contact us for more details.

Minimum age & eligibility

This trip is an open-aged experience that caters for a mix of younger and older travellers. This means that you may travel with people who are outside your own age group. Such a mix of ages creates a great group dynamic and enhances the travel experience, as you get to know a range of people with different stories to tell!

All countries require travellers to have a valid passport (with a minimum 6 months validity), and you are required to acquire the entry visas for each of the countries visited. For UK citizens, visas are not required for entry to South Africa, but will need a visa to enter Zimbabwe and Zambia. Visas should be arranged with the relevant embassy before you travel. If you show up at a border and should you not have the required visa you will be denied entry to the country and be sent back to the closest embassy/high commission to get the visa. It is your responsibility to have the correct travel documentation.

Visa rules and regulations are subject to change. Please check the relevant embassy websites for the most up to date visa information.
