School ‘Gappie’ Assistant Placement
Your hours of work will depend on your individual school placement, and once you have been matched with a school, your individual contract will lay out your expected working hours and duties. Typically, you can expect to assist in the classroom or school offices and coach sports during the day, but you may also help out in the evenings with games and activities, or helping the kids with their homework or offering one-to-one tuition. This role involves assisting with a wide range of general duties at the school.
Usually, weekends will be your free time, but you may be asked to help out at the weekends, in which case you can expect to have a day off in the week instead. You should be open and flexible about your working hours, and be prepared to muck in with all aspects of school life and general school duties, just like any other member of staff.
As well as regular days off every week, you will get time off in the Australian school holidays, which usually run for 2/3 weeks, allowing an ideal window for travel; it’s time to spend your allowance! During the holidays, please note that accommodation and meals are not included.
