Arrival & Transfer to the Yasawa Islands

Welcome to Fiji! Arrive into Nadi International Airport on a Friday, where you will be met and transferred to your Nadi accommodation for your first night in Fiji. Please arrive in time for a 6pm welcome meeting. Relax, soak up the sun and get tuned in to ‘Fiji time’. The following morning you will start the day with a tasty breakfast before hopping on board a boat for the 3-hour journey through sensational island scenery to your volunteer destination – the gorgeous Yasawa Islands.

About the Yasawa Islands

The remote paradise of Fiji’s stunning, volcanic Yasawa Islands will be your base for your unforgettable marine conservation volunteering experience. This chain of 20 idyllic islands boasts pristine white sand beaches, dramatic landscapes and crystal-clear lagoons, including the famous Blue Lagoon. This beautiful spot is the perfect place in which to discover the real Fiji and make a difference to the amazing marine world which surrounds this idyllic spot.

Scuba Diving

This volunteer experience requires you to regularly take part in both snorkelling and scuba diving expeditions, and as such you need to be qualified to scuba dive to at least to PADI Open Water Level. All dive and snorkel gear is included. This programme offers an incredible opportunity to explore a breathtaking underwater world in the wonderful waters which surround Fiji’s fantastic Yasawa Islands.

If you do not have your PADI Open Water qualification, there are a variety of excellent dive courses available in Fiji. Courses cost between FJD800-950 and can be arranged at time of booking. Please let your travel adviser know if you would like to organise a dive course. The cost of the course will be paid locally.

About the Marine Conservation Volunteering Project

Programmes volunteers will get involved in include:

  • Manta Ray research
  • Coral reef check
  • Crown of Thorn Seastar (COTS) watch
  • Coral and Clam nursery
  • Fiji marine biodiversity database
  • Habitat mapping
  • Educational programme in the local community

Free Time

Saturdays and Sundays are free days for you to relax and enjoy all the wonders of Fiji! Get cultural by visiting local Fijian villages or attending a traditional ceremony, enjoy some more diving or snorkelling among the beautiful underwater reefs, bask in the sun on tropical white sand beaches, go bush walking, climb volcanic mountains, join a cruise to nearby islands, visit caves or attend the local village service on a Sunday – a moving and cultural experience. All extra activities are at your own cost.

All volunteers on this programme are required to make a mandatory local donation to support the local projects. This donation is not included in the trip cost but it provides vital funding for materials and resources. Depending on your programme duration, the donation you will be asked to make will usually be between FJD200-FJD400. You will soon become immersed in life on the islands so you’ll be able to see for yourself where you money really goes to make a difference!
