Further trip information

This is an adventure tour involving camping and lots of participation, including setting up camp, as well as shopping, cooking and other camp duties. It’s a lot of fun, but best suited to travellers looking to get stuck into the action. The transport is a really unique feature of this trip too, with most of our journeys undertaken in our 24-seat custom-built safari vehicle. Most of our game park visits are carried out using smaller 4x4 vehicles provided by local services so you can get up close and personal with the wildlife.

Arrival information

You will need to arrange your flights into Cape Town International (CPT). The pre-departure meeting is held at 6pm on the evening prior to departure. You will need to book one night’s accommodation in Cape Town (at your own cost), as the tour departs at 8am on day 1. We can help you arrange this accommodation. Airport transfers are not included.

The shorter route option ends in Livingstone on day 19 and the longer tour route ends in Pretoria on day 25. Johannesburg airport is a short 30-40 minute taxi ride from Pretoria so we recommend you depart from OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg. In case of delays, we always recommend customers spend an extra night (at own cost) in the end accommodation and fly out the following day after your tour ends. If time allows, we also suggest planning a few days after your tour ends to make the most of this part of Africa. We can help you to book extra accommodation if you wish.

Accommodation & meals

Accommodation

This tour departs Cape Town early on day 1, and your welcome meeting is held at 18.00 the previous evening, so you will need to arrive in Cape Town the day before the tour departs.

You will be camping in 2-person dome tents with fly sheets, sewn-in ground sheets, zip-up insect screens and foam mattresses. You will need to bring your own sleeping bag and a small pillow should you wish for one. You will mostly be staying on campsites with washing and shower facilities, toilets, electricity points and sometimes even a small shop, bar or swimming pool. In the Okavango Delta on day 15 you will sleep in twin share pre-erected tents with en-suite facilities. You will be staying in some amazing locations, alongside rivers, by mountains and in stunning National Parks.

Upgraded Accommodation

If you would prefer to stay in hotels, rather than camp, there is the option to upgrade on this tour for extra cost. Please contact us for more details

Pre and post trip accommodation

It is recommended that you arrive at least a day before departure and book an additional night’s accommodation at your own cost. We also recommend that you plan an extra night after your tour is over. Your travel advisor can help you book this.

Meals

Most meals are included on this tour. Travellers on the shorter tour route will have 18 breakfasts, 15 lunches and 14 dinners included. Travellers on the longer tour route will have 24 breakfasts, 20 lunches and 19 dinners included.

On days 6-7 in Swakopmund and days 18-19 in Livingstone, included meals are restricted to breakfasts. This allows you to take on half day or full day activities (some of which include lunch) without having to be back for meal times.

Minimum age & eligibility

This trip is an open-aged experience that caters for a mix of younger and older travellers. This means that you may travel with people who are outside your own age group. Such a mix of ages creates a great group dynamic and enhances the travel experience, as you get to know a range of people with different stories to tell!

All countries require travellers to have a valid passport (with a minimum 6 months validity), and you are required to acquire the entry visas for each of the countries visited. For UK citizens, visas are not required for entry to South Africa, Namibia or Botswana, but are required for entry to Zambia. Visas should be arranged with the relevant embassy before you travel. If you show up at a border and should you not have the required visa you will be denied entry to the country and be sent back to the closest embassy/high commission to get the visa. It is your responsibility to have the correct travel documentation.

Tourists visiting Botswana will be required to pay a tourism levy when crossing the border. This levy will be approximately USD30, payable by cash in US dollars. This is subject to change. Please speak to a travel advisor for more information.

Visa rules and regulations are subject to change. Please check the relevant embassy websites for the most up to date visa information.
