This exciting overland adventure tour takes in 4 amazing Africa countries: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. Overlanding offers the ultimate adventure trip, as you travel off the beaten track in a safari truck and stop off to set up camp in unique and exciting locations across Africa.

This tour can be taken as either the longer 25-day route, or a shorter 19 day route. Please specify your preference when booking.

Day 1: Cape Town to Western Cape, South Africa. Kick off in Cape Town. Optional township tour. Travel along the Western Cape and enjoy a wine tasting before camping by the Olifants River.

Day 2: Western Cape to Gariep (Orange) River. Travel to your camp by the Gariep (Orange) River. Optional canoe river safari or hiking in the area.

Day 3: Gariep (Orange) River to Fish River Canyon, Namibia. Cross into Namibia and arrive at the spectacular Fish River Canyon.

Day 4: Fish River Canyon to Sesriem. See the Namib desert and the highest sand dunes from spectacular Sesriem, the gateway to Namib Naukluft National Park.

Day 5: Namib Naukluft National Park to Solitaire. See the sunrise over the desert from famous Dune 45 in Namib Naukluft National Park. Optional sand dune tour in Sossusvlei.

Day 6–7: Solitaire to Swakopmund. In Swakopmund you can enjoy cool sea air and adventure activities galore. Why not try quad biking, sand boarding or skydiving? 

Day 8: Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe. Stop off at Spitzkoppe to admire the ancient bushman paintings and watch the sunset.

Day 9-10: Etosha National Park. Etosha National Park is home to 114 mammal and 340 bird species. Spend two nights camping by a floodlit waterhole, where you will be able to spot wildlife, plus go on amazing game drives.

Day 11: Etosha to Windhoek. Travel south today to Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek, which sits surrounded by mountain ranges.

Day 12: Windhoek to Ghanzi, Botswana. Cross into Botswana and the town of Ghanzi. Take a guided bush walk among this barren-looking terrain, led by local San/Bushman and learn all about this ancient people’s way of life.

Day 13: Ghanzi to Maun. With its unusual mix of modern and native homes, Maun, Botswana’s fifth largest town, lies along the banks of the Thamalakane River. Possible optional flight over the Okavango Delta region (at extra cost).

Day 14: Okavango Delta. If you've booked the Adventure Pass you'll head into the magical Okavango Delta for a unique canoe and wildlife overnight excursion.

Day 15: Maun. Return to Maun by midday and spend a free afternoon trying exciting optional activities or relaxing in Maun.

Day 16: Maun – Elephant Sands, Nata. Travel from Maun to Nata, arriving at the Elephant Sands Lodge in the late afternoon. With no fences, expect to spot wildlife roaming freely between waterholes!

Day 17: Elephant Sands, Nata – Kasane. Kasane is the gateway to Chobe National Park. Optional ‘Fish Eagle’ cruise on the Chobe River and game drive.

Day 18: Kasane to Livingstone, Victoria Falls, Zambia. Cross the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers by ferry today into Zambia and camp close to Livingstone and see mighty Victoria Falls.

Day 19: Livingstone (Note: Short tour route ends today). Travellers on the 25-day route will spend another day around Livingstone and Victoria Falls. Please note: For travellers on the shorter route, the tour will end today after breakfast.

Day 20: Livingstone to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Cross the border to Zimbabwe bound for your campsite just outside Bulayawo.

Day 21: Matobo. Head over to Matobo National Park, located a short distance outside Bulawayo. Boasting the largest concentration of White and Black Rhino in Africa, as well as leopards and black eagles you can enjoy a variety of activities, including game drives and walks in this idyllic location.

Day 22: Bulawayo – Tshipise, South Africa. Cross back into South Africa and travel to Tshipise town. Camp close to the Honnet Nature Reserve, famous for its hot springs and stunning surrounding woodland.

Day 23–24: Tshipise to Kruger National Park, South Africa. Arrive in Kruger National Park. Spend two nights under the stars and enjoy a full day’s game drive. Be entertained by singing and dancing from local Shangaan tribesmen.

Day 25: Greater Kruger to Johannesburg. Make your way from Kruger to the lively city of Johannesburg, where your tour will end in the late afternoon/ early evening. Accommodation for tonight is not included.

Please note: The itinerary above is for guidance only. Every effort is made to adhere to the planned route, but please allow for a certain amount of flexibility, as on occasion it may be necessary or desirable to make alterations to the itinerary.
