Day 1: Moshi. Make your way to your starting accommodation in Moshi. Meet your guide and group this evening to discuss the adventure ahead!
Day 2: Moshi to Machame Camp. On our first day of hiking, we’ll walk the rainforest covered lower slopes for between 5 and 7 hours. Keep your eyes peeled for monkeys and exotic birds! End the day at Machame Campsite, tucking into a well-deserved group dinner.
Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp. This morning we’ll climb sharply towards the edge of the forest. We’ll stop for a break then continue hiking to Shira Cathedral with spectacular views of the peaks (5 – 6 hours total). Our home for the night is Shira Camp 2.
Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp. Climb slowly over 3 – 4 hours to the Lava Tower for incredible views across the Western Breach. Descend from the Lava Tower to the Great Barancco Valley over about 2 hours and end at Barranco Camp with views of hanging glaciers and the Kibo Massif.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp. We’ll be hiking around 4 – 5 hours today, starting with the eastern side of the Great Barranco Wall. We’ll pass below the Heim Glacier and through the alpine desert of the Karanga Valley, enjoying epic views of Mt Kili on the way.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp. A shorter trek in store today (3 -4 hours) to Barafu Camp. Barafu is on a narrow ridge with an unforgettable view of the Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. Have your cameras at the ready! We’ll turn in really early for a few hours rest, before our wakeup call at 11pm!
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp. Wake for a snack and warm drink, before we climb to Stella Point for a dazzling sunrise (around 5 – 6 hours). Then start the gradual climb along the snowy trail, to the summit at Uhuru Peak (5895 metres). Take some time to reflect on your amazing accomplishment before beginning the descent towards Barafu Camp where we’ll rest, before continuing down towards Mweka for around 4 – 6 hours.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Moshi. We’ll continue our descent to Mweka Village for 4 – 5 hours, then stop for lunch before transferring to Moshi. This evening you’ll be welcomed by the mamas of Moshi Women’s Cooperative, who’ll present you with a gift and certificate to celebrate your efforts.
Day 9: Moshi and trip end. The time has come to pack your bags and say your farewells to your new friends. Head to the airport or continue your travels after breakfast. Well done!
