Blue Duck Conservation Programme, New Zealand

Location - Whakahoro, New Zealand

One of the most endangered species in New Zealand is the Whio - known as the Blue Duck. The main reason they are becoming extinct is due to loss of habitat.

At this project, you can learn more about the Whio and what conservation efforts have been put in place to save the native and endangered bird. Our local team sponsors 10 traps to catch rats, ferrets and other pests that eat Blue Duck eggs or kill chicks. Our travellers can spend time as Blue Duck "Eco-warriors", getting involved in conservation projects.
